For the January 2020 Toronto Media Arts Roundtable, MANO and Critical Distance are partnering to frame the conversation on the responsibilities and pressures for artist-run and media art organizations and collectives, along with staff and contractors for the production of historical records. For many artists in Canada entries in festival catalogues or artist-run centre brochures are some of the only responses to their work. Discussions may include questions such as:
- How are cultural workers and organizations working to address current gaps in critical writing?
- How can organizations and programming/curatorial staff better steward histories?
- What is the role of memory institutions?
- What is being centred and what is excluded in current practices?
This is a free event and all artists and arts workers are welcome to join. Please rsvp at membership@mano-ramo.ca
